In 1994 I was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident that almost claimed my life. I was left in Royal Perth Hospital (ICU) with severe head injuries and very little hope of surviving or being able to come out of this without permanent injuries. Before this happened I was already involved in the martial arts. I believe this is what helped give me the strength to recover so well. During my time in hospital the one goal I had was to get out and continue with my training.

Over the next year or so, I slowly recovered and got back to the point where I could return to training. After being back at training for a while, I needed more. What I was doing didn’t feel complete. I searched around looking at other martial arts and after reading an article about The World Wing Chun Kung Fu Association I decided that is what I wanted to do. So I ended up taking on the Wing Chun Correspondence Program as a way to extend my knowledge of this system.

I am now a Sifu and Head Instructor at The Perth Wing Chun Academy. I originally only saw the correspondence program as a way to learn extra material. Learning by correspondence is very hard but as I have proven it is possible.

To me Wing Chun was a simple scientific martial art that proved to be effective. It’s no-nonsense method of protection based on economy of motion and proper body mechanics in my mind sets it apart from other styles I have see. Every new day of training opens a new doorway to a bigger room than the one before.

I formed the Perth Wing Chun Academy in March 2000  and was directly responsible for arranging Grandmaster William Cheung’s first seminars in Western Australia.

The academy has now grow and I am proud to see students climbing the ranks below me to instructor level. I recently graded to Level 6 provisionsal master which has given me the skills to practice and teach Dim Mak and Cheungs Meridian Therapy.
