Profile of Sifu Daniel KIng

Si-Fu Daniel King was first introduced to Traditional Wing Chun in April 2005, although at the time he joined the club he did not truly know what he had his hands on.
"I recall first meeting Si-Fu Peter (the head instructor of the Perth Wing Chun Academy) and thinking this could be something I could stick at. I had never formally done a martial art so committing to a monthly payment would only spur on my interest and make sure I attended class consistently. I’d say in those early days I was probably only attending 2 times a week but like most things, as my interest grew so did my dedication"
After struggling his way through the first year or so things slowly but surely started to click, although it wasn’t without a lot of hard work outside of training.
I was completely uncoordinated, didn't understand the footwork concepts and couldn't see the big picture. I definitely wasn't a natural.
It was at around this time that Si-Fu Graham had started his own branch in Morley, quite close to where Daniel lived.
"Classes were generally quite small in those early days which gave me a great opportunity to be mentored directly by Si-Fu Graham and to demonstrate alongside him in front of class. This is where I believe my Wing Chun progress began to skyrocket. As the class size began to grow over the months, so did my confidence in training and in teaching other students. I found Si-Fu Graham was very particular with the basics, and made sure the footwork and technique was precise. Eventually I was given more responsibility in teaching the core principles and the concepts he instilled in me rolled over to all aspects of my existence and were life-changing"
Since that time all the braches have recombined and the Perth Wing Chun Academy has centralised to Bayswater which has resulted in a huge growth in the number of students, and the quality of Wing Chun in Western Australia.
"I see Wing Chun Kung Fu as a way of life. The principles of the system can be applied to all aspects of ones life. I believe my lifelong journey has just begun and I'm forever grateful to Grandmaster Cheung for bringing the system to Australia. I have huge respect for my two Si-Fu's who have guided me along the road and if I could give anyone advice about doing Wing Chun I would tell you that YOU CAN DO IT! All it takes is a bit of dedication, passion, and a willingness to learn and grow.”
